As the day progressed it began to rain heavily much to the delight of the early riders that were able to sneak in their times before the deluge. Contador, resplendent in red, rode a safe effort ensuring no last minute disasters would derail his campaign. This is the third Vuelta title for Alberto and no doubt one of his most impressive efforts to date.

For the ‘Race of Truth’ Alberto chose to ride the legendary S-Works Shiv TT. As the rain fell the superior traction of the S-Works Turbo tires, paired with Roval wheels, ensured Alberto was able to confidently navigate the course. Keeping everything as aerodynamic as possible was Contador’s custom liveried S-Works TT helmet while his S-Works Road Shoes kept the power churning to the pedals.

This Vuelta victory is a special one for Contador as it comes on the heels of a rather disappointing Tour de France campaign that saw the Spaniard from Pinto withdraw with a broken leg. In just a few short months, Alberto was able to rehabilitate his injury and not just show up to the race, but firmly stamp his dominance on it as well. Contador rode brilliantly for three weeks as his Tinkoff-Saxo teammates helped to ensure he was always in the right position when the race began to make its selections. His sixth Grand Tour victory, there is no doubt this one will hold a special place in his heart and from everyone here at Specialized we’d like to say, buen trabajo Alberto!
