What started out as a decision to race for fun quickly turned into one of the more exciting cyclocross battles is recent memory. Starting from the fourth row behind the juggernauts of the sport, Zdenek fought tooth and nail to quickly make his way through the mid-pack traffic. The race came down to an exhilarating last-lap duel between Zdenek, and defending World Champion Sven Nys. The two men traded attacks, and spills, as they battled for supremacy in the grueling mud. With a punishing final attack, Zdenek was able to finally shed the Belgian to claim his third rainbow jersey in Hoogerheide, Netherlands. With wet and sticky conditions throughout the course, equipment choice was imperative. Together with members of Specialized Racing, Zdenek decided the Evade helmet and S-Works Crux would work best for the conditions. With unwavering trust in his equipment, and a ferocious will to win, Zdenek was able to overcome a training schedule light in cyclocross racing and pull off a truly inspiring victory. Not too shabby for a guy who was out there just to have fun.
