Diagonal des Fous, Grand Raid Réunion - Officiel 2019: A race that provided a lot more than expected with unfortunate course markings, never stopped Compressport athletes from giving up the fight. Grégoire Curmer took a great win, while Dav Hauss was impressive with 6th place in his longest ever race!
It was a thrilling 27th edition of Grand Raid Réunion - Diagonal des Fous that got underway on Thursday evening. With perfect conditions, our 6 elite runners took off on the tough route which covered; 166km and 9,611mD+.
In an extremely unfortunate turn of events, the race took a huge shake when the leading men lost up to 50 ́ due to incorrect course marking. Despite this, our runners kept their fighting spirit and continued. Compressport runner and Chef from Chamonix; Gregoire Curmer took the lead of the race. Ludovic Pommeret moved into 164th, Diego Pazos "Zpeedy" was in 314th, while the local David Hauss fell back to 416th.
Staying focused on his race, Curmer who finished 16th in his last attempt at the 2016 Grand Raid, showed some amazing form to take an impressive victory in 23:33:45. A huge comeback from Pommeret saw him cross the line for equal 2nd place, his third time finishing 2nd within the last 10 years. It was an incredible race by David Hauss who in his first 100-mile distance, ran the race of his life to turn around the early misfortune and cross the line for 6th place. Battling injury during the last half of the season, Diego Pazos gave a gallant fight given the circumstances to still finish the race in 19th place.
Unfortunately, Arthur Joyeux-Bouillon and Jordi Gamito Baus were forced to abandon with an injury.
