2015 Dubai Tour leader’s jersey now available
Sir Paul Smith himself, who is arguably the most successful designer in British history, was behind the decision to partner with the Dubai Tour. He has been a cyclist for many years and has a passion for the sport, its heritage and its culture. Paul Smith’s iconic style is clearly evident in the design of the four jerseys and Sir Paul Smith’s signature will be very evident on the back and collar of the jerseys.
“I was very pleased to be asked to design the Dubai Tour jerseys,” said Sir Paul Smith. “There are four jerseys, one for each of the different classifications and a key consideration in the design of each was keeping the riders cool. Working with Castelli, I’ve used a breathable fabric on the front, there’s a full zip that they can open if they need to cool down and on the back it’s got a UV filter fabric. The Dubai Tour is becoming increasingly important in the road cycle season and I’m looking forward to watching!”
To ensure the jerseys are perfect for the warm Dubai climate, Castelli has partnered with the leading Italian fabric supplier SITIP to give the riders a lightweight next-to-nothing fabric for hot desert temperatures, the high-tech fabric blocks 96% of UV rays while providing excellent moisture management. The jersey is cut in a close-to-the-body anatomical shape for maximum aerodynamic performance when the peloton headed into dusty crosswind sections.
There are four jerseys, one for each of the different classifications:
Blue Jersey General Classification: worn by the overall winner, the one who has proven themselves to be the fastest and most consistent rider over the course. The inaugural, 2014 blue jersey was won by BMC’s Taylor Phinney.
Red Jersey Points Classification: worn by the fastest sprinter, the one who has arrived before the others. Last year the jersey was won by Giant Alpecin’s Marcel Kittel, winner of three of four stages.
UAE Flag Jersey Intermediate Sprint Classification: worn by the rider who has struggled along the entire course to gain more Intermediate Sprint Points than any other rider. Last year’s winner was Willem Jakobus Smit from South Africa.
White Jersey Young Rider Classification: worn by the best young rider, the personification of the power and of the future. Tailor Phinney also won this classification in 2014.
The race will take place from 4th to 7th of February 2015 and is expected to be broadcasted across more than 120 countries with riders from 16 teams will battle across four stages and 663 kilometres for the leaders jerseys.
